Scoring

Overview

The first two sections lay out the scoring categories for hitters and pitchers. Note that pitchers hitting statistics and hitters pitching statistics are not counted. Any statistics accumulated in minor leagues do not count. The only case in which statistics accumulated in one league is counted for the other league is for a player who is traded mid-period.

Schedule

Every two weeks the above statistics shall be calculated for that particular two week Recording Period. If any days with no scheduled games occur in a Recording Period, then the various limits used in scoring players will be prorated down to reflect the size of the Recording Period. Statistics are published daily by TQSTATS, and delivered via email. The stats are downloaded on Mondays, and results will be compiled the same day, whenever possible.

The first week and the last week of Major League play do not count towards RRBL stats.

How A Game Is Played

At draft day, the franchises are assigned to two separate divisions. The teams that draft first, third, and fifth in the American League will make up the "RRBL Odd" division. The other teams will make up the "RRBL Even" division. The season is broken up into games, three games (each between two franchises) per Period. NOTE: If two teams trade draft positions, their divisions do not change.

How A Game Is Won

Games are won by the team with the most "runs" scored. A run is awarded for each category score that is better than the opponents. In case of a tie in a specific category, no run is awarded.

In the above game, the bold face denotes which team scored the run. Note that neither team scored in the American League WLS category because of the tie.

Game Tie Breakers

In the event of a tie game, the following statistics will be used (in this order) to break the tie. If the teams are tied after both tie-breakers are scored, then a coin toss will determine the winner. In these categories, we will use the total of the American and National League team's scores.
  1. Scoring Ratio (SCR)
  2. On Base Ratio (OBR)

Period 22Playoff Games

The notation "DH" indicates that a double header. The pairs of periods in question will use stats from the same week for both games.

As shown above, Period 22 will be used for playoff games. The winners of the two divisions will play. The winner of that game is the league champion, and the loser gets second place. The two second place teams will play for third and fourth place, the two third place teams will play for fifth and sixth, and so on.

Divisional Tie Breakers

If we have a tie for any divisional position, the following tie breaking rules are used:

Two-Way Tie

  1. The teams' records in head-to-head play.
  2. Total runs scored in games against each other.
  3. Total runs scored.
  4. Largest bribe to the Commissioner, Treasurer, and Statistician.

Three-Way Tie

  1. Best record in games only involving the three tied teams.
  2. Total runs scored in games only involving the three tied teams.
  3. Total runs scored.
  4. Largest bribe to the Commissioner, Treasurer, and Statistician.
In the case of a three-way tie, if one of the tie-breakers removes one or more of the teams, then further tie breaking will be done according to the rules for that new tie situation.

Note: Bribes must be offered equally to the Commissioner, Treasurer and Statistician. If one of us feels like we're getting stiffed, odds are the tie-breakers won't go your way. Bribes are also non-refundable. However, they are fully tax deductible, provided you don't mind going to prison.
