The band consists of three Canadians from Toronto. Don Pyle, he ensures an even beat, Reid Diamond, always looking for strange bass lines that nobody knows, he works at Doctor Collision Car Wash, and Brian Connelly, who knows the secret to always be a guitar riff behind.

They once had a singer who, however, left the band due to permanent ineffectiveness, and since they could not replace the singer, they decided to continue on the instrumental level.

Sie hatten mal einen Sànger, dar jedoch wegen permanenter Ertolglosigkeit die Band verließ, und da sie den Sànger nicht ersetzen konnten, beschlossen sie, auf instrumentalebene weiterzumachen.

During a session in the summer of '85 they recorded their first 7" EP, with the auspicious title Love Without Words. Side one, "Our Weapons Are Useless", revolves around the aforementioned bassline from "Planet Claire", with a sharp, angular guitar sound, and side two delivers a brilliant, Ventures-inspired ballad with "Having An Average Weekend", with a wonderful, wavy glare straight out of the Sixties. According to their own statements, the single sold several million times and made them stars overnight.

Nach eigenen Aussagen verkaufte sich die Single mehrere Millionen Mal und machte sie über Nacht zu Stars.

In the meantime they had achieved a certain degree of popularity in club circles, which they largely owed to their never boring appearances. For a pure instrumental band it is certainly not an easy task to not only keep the audience from falling asleep, but also to keep them happy.

Inzwischen hatten sie in Clubkreisen einen gewissen Bekanntheitsgrad erlangt, was sie großenteils Ihren nie langweilig werdenden Auftritten zu verdanken haben. Für eine reine Instrumental-band sicher keine leichte Aufgabe, das Publikum nicht nur vor dem Einschlafen zu bewahren, sondern auch noch bei Laune zu halten.

They recorded a crazy second single in '86, Wow Flutter Hiss '86. It appeared like your first and, to anticipate, as its following will appear, on your own label: JetPac Music.

Irre zweite Single nahmen sie '86 auf, "Wow Flutter, Hiss '86". Sie erschien, wie Ihre erste und, um das vorweg zu nehmen, wie ihre Folgenden erscheinen werden, auf Ihrem eigenen Label: JetPac Music.

Four songs, including "Theme From TV". which announces the inevitable takeover of all broadcasting stations by the Shadowy Men. "While other bands are planning videos, we, the Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet, are preparing to start our own television series."

4 Songs, u.a. "Theme From TV". der die unverrneintliche Übernahme aller Sendestationen durch die Shadowy Men ankundigt. "Wehrend andere Bands Videos planen, sind wir, die Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet, darauf vorbereitet eine eigene Fernsehserie zu starten".

Or "Shake Some Evil", the performance of an old hillbilly classic "Shake Your Boll Weevil". It's a really scary song. The message is actually quite strange, but if you play a song backwards, the lyrics fall by the wayside.

In August '86 the Shadowy Men got bored on their Shadowy Planet and they decided to go on tour. They play in Calgary and Vancouver, but in front of such small audiences that any mere mortal would have fumbled for the job. But not the Shadowy Men.

Im August '86 kam die große Langeweile über die Shadowy Men auf ihrem Shadowy Planet, und sie beschlossen auf Iournee zu gehen. Sie spielen in Calgary und Vancouver, jedoch vor so kleinem Publikum, daß jeder normal Sterbliche den Job an den Nadel gebangt hatte. Nicht jedoch die Shadowy Men.

Just back home and having a richer experience, it was time for a new EP, Schlagers!. This time with six songs, some even with vocals or tape recordings and as a free supplement there was "Schlagers: The Game". The goal of the game is to reach the planet Schlagers with your Lunar Bingo Chip, with the help of an Astral Director, a Space Bolt and a universal, two sided, space sized language decoder disc (The Record), 45 RPM for best results.

Gerade wieder zu Hause und im eine Erfahrung reicher, war es Zeit fur eine neue EP, "Schlagers!". Diesmal mit 6 Stucken, teilweise sogar mit Gesang bzw. Tapeeinspielungen und als Gratisbeiliage gab's "Schlagers- the Game". Ziol des Spieles ist es mit seinem Lunar Bingo Chip den Planeten Schlagers zu erreichen, unter Zuhilfenahme eines Astral -Directors, eines Spacebolt und einer universal, two sided, space sized language Decoder Disc (The Record), 45 RPM for best results.

Their fourth single was a live record and was distributed to the first 250 lucky visitors at a concert in their hometown, Live Record With Extra Bread And Cheese.

Ihre 4. Single war eine live-Platte und wurde bei einem Konzert in ihrer Heimatstadt an die ersten 250 gluckliehen Besucher verteilt, "Record With Extra Bread And Cheese".

Meanwhile their fifth single Explosion Of Taste has been released, again purely instnmental. As a special gag you can cut out the figures on the cover and unfold them. Musically it picks up on the previous singles, but the B-side, the "demonstration side for home use only", is quite strange. In the background some pop singer is singing a shout, while in the foreground a washboard is being worked wildly with a legend. Maybe some extraterrestrial voodoo magic that now tortures the pop singer every time you put the record on. Anyway, he deserved it.

Mittlerweile ist auch ihre 5. Single erschienen "Explosion of Taste", wieder rein instnmental. Als besonderen Gag kann man die Figuren auf dem Cover ausschneiden und aufbugein. Musikalisch knupit sie en die vorangegangenen Singles an, jedoch ist die B-Seite, die Demonstration-Side, for home use only, recht merkwurdig. Im Hintergrund singt irgendein Schlagersänger eine Schnulze daher, während im Vordergrund wie wild ein Waschbrett mit einer Sage bearbeitet wird. Vielleicht irgendein extraterrestrischer Voodoo-Zauber, mit demm jetzt der Schlagersänger gequält wird, jedesmal wenn man die Platte auflegt. Verdient hatte er es jedenfalls.

Whether the Shadowy Men will stay a little more on this Shadowy Planet depends on whether they will finally be celebrated or not, a record production in England should already be pending. So let's hope it works, I wish it were for you.

Ob die Shadowy Men noch ein Wellchen auf diesem Shadowy Planet bleiben, hangt davon eb, ob sie nun endlich benühmt werden oder nicht, eine Plattenproduktion in England soll schon anstehen. Hoffen wir also, daß es klappt, zu wünschen wär's ihnen.
