LINER NOTES EXCERPT:
Talk about your mood music—low lights, cold ham, all the elements are here for you to dive right into this loungy new bit from those friendly Torontonians, Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet. Tack on the charismatic, Canadian sounds of "D-Tour", and it leads one to believe that their second Cargo LP Dim The Lights, Chill The Ham will be a roomful of fun. More cold ham anyone?

NOTES:
- This is a radio promo CD with 10 episodes of "MTV 120 Minutes: Left Of The Dial". Each episode is a five to six minute segment with an "artist profile" and one other feature in each. The episodes are hosted by Dave Kendall, who hosted MTV 120 Minutes, their late night alternative music program that aired then. Nine of the features are "New Release Features" where they talk very briefly about the artist and then play a song from the CD.
- The intro to the Shadowy Men track is as follows …
Canada's Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet are best known as creators of the theme from HBO's Kids In The Hall but their roots lie in the classic rock of The Ventures and The Beach Boys as you can hear on their latest album, Dim The Lights, Chill The Ham. Here's Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet with "Hunter S. Thompson's Younger Brother" …
- Yes, Dim The Lights came out in 1991 and this is from 1992, so it's not all that "new", but hey, an S Men song got played on a national radio program.
- This disc is for "week 11 and 12", so the episode with the S Men probably aired on Feb. 18, 1992, although it could be Feb. 11, 1992, depending on whether the week with Jan. 1, 1992 (a Wednesday) was considered "week 1".

NOTES:
- This album is a sampler of Juno Award winning songs from 1992. I've noted the awards under each song.
- Note for non-Canadians: The "Alanis" in the credits is indeed Alanis Morissette, but this was back in her teen-pop days. Yes, before she emerged as an alternative rock star in 1995, she was a teen-pop sensation in Canada like Debbie Gibson or Tiffany were in the US. You're shocked - I can tell.

LINER NOTES EXCERPT:
"Rover & Rusty" is a musical story, centered around the likes of two dogs, Rover and Rusty. When Brian played those three chords to us, they were so evocative of the companionship enjoyed between these two canines than Don yelled "Rover!" and Reid responded with "Rusty!". The tape was recorded on a sunny June day along with three other animal tracks, and was released on the Music For Pets EP on "K" Records in 1991. A video for the instrumental was filmed during the International Pop Underground Convention in Olympia, Washington and features dogs, cats, llamas and Fugazi.

LINER NOTES EXCERPT:
Speaking of great original tunes, Toronto's Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet always delivered the goods. Playing instrumentals exclusively, they achieved a phenomenal success with many records and concerts that eventually culminated in their stint providing music for Canada's hit T.V. program The Kids In The Hall. Although the Shadowy Men always kept a few steps ahead of pure 60's revivalist music (their talent and eclectic tastes could never knuckle under to one genre), they came out with some of the coolest retro-inspired instros ever recorded in this country. Just listen to their 1985 release "Bennett Cerf" and you'll get an idea of the skill and intellect that put the Shadowy Men at the forefront of the Canadian music scene.

NOTES:
- This is probably a pirate CD (see next note). It's a silver CD, not a CD-R, but it has the feel of a home-made CD about it. There are no liner notes, no credits, no information about the company that made it, and a number of typos on the sleeve (which I've fixed above). The songs are generally from the 50s and 60s (with the exception of the S Men tracks), and a lot of them do appear to be quite rare. Not sure about the songwriters in all cases, I took a shot at 'em based on info I found on Allmusic.com. If you have any corrections, by all means, send 'em my way.
- A "pirate" release is one that appears to be a legitimate, either a knock-off of an official release or a compilation of officially released songs like this one. A "bootleg" is a release of previously unreleased material, like a live concert or studio outtakes.
